 Within our own operations, we continuously undertake actions to optimize the energy and resource
utilization of our banking activities.
Electricity
Vontobel's basic needs are met with pure hydroelectric power, supplemented by a substantial element of ecologically generated electricity under the label "naturemade
star!" This is electricity generated by solar installations and hydroelectric stations, meeting the highest environmental standards. By tapping into this
"eco-electricity", we are making a contribution towards the continued generation of these clean energy sources as well as the construction of new solar power
installations and hydro plants.
Paper
When it comes to paper, we insist on sustainable forestry: all of the paper we use in copiers and printers bears the FSC Label. This guarantees that the wood used comes from
sustainably managed forests. For our externally printed publications as well, we are switching over stepwise to FSC paper.
Premises
In 2007, Vontobel moved into its new head office in Zurich's Gotthardstrasse. Instead of air conditioning, the building has a ventilation system which stores cool air at
night and re-uses it during the day to cool the premises. One of the newly occupied buildings bears the Minergie Label, attesting to its energy-saving construction methods.
Energy-efficient lighting is provided by energy-saving standing lamps outfitted with motion sensors that can turn themselves off when no one is there. In addition, our
partners who operate the employee cafeteria and clean the offices are contractually obligated to meet high environmental standards in providing their services.
