The war in Ukraine has been raging for a year now, after eight years of gruelling conflict in the Donbas. The escalation of the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine has cost the lives of thousands of civilians and put almost 18 million people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. Communities are struggling to survive the harsh cold of winter and thousands of families are suffering the pain of not knowing where or how their loved ones are.
The ICRC has been at the forefront of humanitarian efforts to help those affected since 2014 and has massively expanded its operations since the war began in the beginning of last year, with staff on the ground in Ukraine and neighbouring countries providing emergency assistance and protection to vulnerable families.
