Art at Vontobel: A change of perspective

A love of art is part of our corporate culture. In the 1970s, on the initiative of Dr. Hans Vontobel (1916–2016), we began to develop a diverse collection of national and international art.

In recent years, we have been focusing on contemporary photography and collecting works from nationally and internationally renowned artists that present exceptional views of our current way of life. By seeking out new visual and narrative modes, and by exploiting and transcending the limits of photography as a medium, they create new and expressive images.

The art influences our working environment in a variety of ways – for our customers as well as for our employees. And in an era of mass-produced images, it enables new, unusual and surprising views of our surroundings, and offers a chance to confront alternative perspectives.

The Arts Commission

The Vontobel Arts Commission is formed of employees with a love of art. They are assisted and supported by external art experts. Specialist advice is provided by freelance curator Urs Stahel, co-founder and former director of the Fotomuseum Winterthur. As a representative of the Group Executive Board, Axel Schwarzer, Head of Asset Management, chairs the Arts Commission.
