Vontobel steps up marketing of its Multi Issuer Platform deritrade® for structured products – Gerhard Meier takes on managerial role in Vontobel’s platform management business

 

The trend in wealth management towards independent and product-neutral investment advice is clearly bolstering the strategic importance of the Multi Issuer Platform deritrade®. With a view to consolidating and building on its innovation advantage in the platform business for structured products, Vontobel is setting up a new business area – Financial Products Multi Issuer Platform. This newly created unit will be headed by Gerhard Meier, who was previously responsible for UBS’s "Equity Investor" platform.

 

The multi-issuer platform deritrade® (deritrade® MIP) is rapidly becoming established in the market, impressively confirming Vontobel’s role as a technology leader in the platform business for structured products. More than 4,000 users worldwide – with assets under management totalling in excess of CHF 1,000 billion – take advantage of this tried-and-tested multi-issuer platform with a view to adding value for their clients. This massive market potential is also winning over other renowned firms in the structured products business, and more and more third-party issuers are therefore distributing their products via Vontobel’s platform. For example, a few weeks ago Morgan Stanley became the latest major player in the sector to join deritrade®, following on from Société Génerale. Further new additions are in the offing, and Vontobel will be actively seeking out more.

 

With deritrade® MIP, Vontobel has a decisive competitive advantage in the market for tailor-made and transparently comparable structured products. With a view to consolidating this innovation advantage and developing it further, Gerhard Meier will be taking on a key managerial role in Vontobel’s platform management business as of 1 November 2013. Gerhard Meier was previously Head Equity Structured Products at UBS Wealth Management. In addition to this function, from 2000 he was responsible for the development of UBS KeyInvest, and its evolution into UBS Equity Investor. Before joining UBS, Gerhard Meier also played a significant role in setting up and developing EBS, a leading global FX trading platform.
