Exhibition A New Gaze 5: Switzerland 2084

Jiajia Zhang—And in 2084, You Are 62

Across a sequence of photographic constellations, lenticular images, and spatial arrangements, personal imagery appears alongside vernacular and historical references, tracing how identities, roles, and values circulate between past, present, and future. At the center of the installation, a mirrored video chamber forms a kind of visual core. Here, moving images unfold alongside a script specially written for the film by the British philosopher and cultural theorist Sadie Plant; personal scenes intersect with fragments from political, technological, and entertainment contexts. Through the mirrored architecture of the space—inspired by a mirrored childrens’ crawling tunnel—the images continuously reflect and overlap, generating unstable composite views that invite viewers to imagine further projections into the future.

With And in 2084, You Are 62 Zhang translates the premise of "Switzerland 2084" into a dynamic artistic approach that offers fresh perspectives on the evolving fabric of Swiss society. Rather than focusing on grand narratives or official histories, the artist’s installation proposes that everyday visual traces—images of care, technology, objects, and social roles—may reveal the emotional and cultural infrastructures through which a future Switzerland might take shape.
